National Recovery Month

Sep 30, 2026

Our Mission: to Serve All in Our Community on their Path to Recovery — No Matter Who They Are or What Challenges They Face

Messages written in marker on a white table cloth talking about how recovery has changed their lives

September is National Recovery Month

This September, we celebrate the power of recovery and the individuals who walk alongside one another on the journey to freedom. At the heart of our recovery model are peer engagement and accountability, and many of our staff draw on their own lived experience to inspire others, one step at a time.

Join us in celebrating recovery this month and in carrying that encouragement into the season ahead!

Transforming Lives Through Residential Recovery

THE FREEDOM HOUSE WAY: HOPE

We are excited to announce that our Roxboro House is now open and accepting referrals! This new recovery residence in Person County marks a significant milestone in realizing our vision that all seeking recovery are connected to the care and resources they need to reach their fullest potential.

We’ve seen the incredible transformation that can take place when people have a safe space and time to rebuild their lives, surrounded by support. People like Cheryl. Read Cheryl’s story of transformation in her own words:

“Before Freedom House, I was battling a 30-year addiction that controlled much of my life. I was in and out of jail, carrying a lot of anger, hurt, and confusion. I felt lost and trapped in a cycle that I did not know how to break.

I was tired of repeating the same painful cycle. I knew I wanted something different. I was ready for change and willing to give myself a chance at a better life.

Living at the recovery residence was a life-changing experience. I learned structure, accountability, and how to live without depending on drugs. I was surrounded by people who understood my journey and supported my recovery.

I began learning who I was and believing that a different life was possible.

Life today in recovery is something I am very proud of. I have been clean for 12 years and have built a life with purpose. I now work full-time at Freedom House, the place that helped change my life, and I have been a member of the Tailored Care Management (TCM) team for almost four years.

Freedom House gave me an opportunity to change my life, and now I want to give that hope to others and use my experience to help others believe they can recover, rebuild, and create a better life.

I would tell someone entering the program to give themselves a chance and remain open to the process. Recovery is possible, even when it feels difficult. Take it one day at a time, accept support, be honest with yourself, and never give up. If I can do it, you can too!”

Collaborating for Community Resilience

THE POWER OF SHOWING UP TOGETHER

Showing up no matter who, no matter what, no matter when has been the commitment of our mission from the very beginning. Our mobile crisis services most clearly embody our mantra along The Freedom House Way.

We are preparing to launch the Warren County Mobile Crisis Co-Responder Program, a grant-funded crisis response initiative that combines clinical and peer support professionals with emergency medical services (EMS) and law enforcement.

This program offers rapid, on-site intervention for mental health and substance use crises, ensuring individuals receive immediate assistance and the most beneficial, safe, and coordinated follow-up care. Additionally, it provides the appropriate avenue to healing instead of emergency department visits or jail admissions and improves outcomes for overdose interventions and suicide prevention efforts.

This program promotes long-term engagement in treatment and recovery services, and it’s how we walk the journey with the Warren County community in moments of crisis and every moment of healing beyond.

We encourage you to learn more about our crisis program and share this resource with all who may need support. If you’re interested in bringing this partnership to your community, reach out today!
